Meet Edwin Tielen, Customer Success Manager based out of The Hague, Netherlands, who joined AvePoint in October 2020. Learn about how his remote onboarding experience has been going, what he’s enjoying about his work, and his woodworking and furniture-building interests that keep him busy outside of his remote office!

What’s your story at AvePoint so far?

During my first two months I have been focusing on product training, learning tools and processes, and getting to know the people at AvePoint. Despite the Covid-19 situation, I’ve been able to virtually meet many of my team members and every single one of them has offered his or her kind assistance if I’ve had any questions. The people that I’ve already interacted with have made me feel welcomed and valued, and truly part of the team.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My days are not yet typical, as I’m still ramping up, but I’m currently deep-diving on products my customers have, learning about the different product roles, and conducting hand-overs with other Customer Success Managers.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy working with customers to make them successful in what they do with our products and services. I also enjoy working within a team with people of many diverse skills and positive spirits, differentiating products, and getting great support.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I’m a bit of a “Bob the Builder.” I like building stuff from 3D designs to final builds, woodworking with as many power tools as I can fit in my basement, and building furniture to support my kids in re-shaping and re-building their homes! I’m their personal handyman. I’ve built small projects and more complex furniture for in-house and outdoor usage. I also enjoy music festivals, wining & dining and traveling with good friends and my family!

What is the one thing you can’t live without?

My family! I’m blessed with a lovely wife and three wonderful daughters. The two eldest live less than 5 minutes away from us, the youngest lives at home most weekends and is working towards her bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management a bit further south. We’re blessed to have them all nearby and see them weekly, if not daily.

Do you have a favorite quote?

It’s not a famous one, but I would like, “A day without laughter is a day wasted.” Even in stressful situations I tend to throw in a silly remark or two as it helps to take pressure off and put things into perspective.

Tell us three things most people don’t know about you…

  1. I’m an open book with no secrets or hidden agendas.
  2. I sometimes spend more time on building the jigs to make things near-perfect than the actual projects.
  3. I like to repurpose things in a way they were not designed for.
