How Microsoft’s Encryption Update Impacts AvePoint Products, Customers

Preparing for the Impact of TLS 1.2 Update

Microsoft continues to deliver the best-in-class encryption by announcing the release of Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2. This announcement also means that starting October 31st, 2018, TLS 1.0 and 1.1 in Office 365 are dissolving.

The discontinuation of prior TLS encryption has impacted hybrid scenarios where AvePoint server products connect to Office 365.  AvePoint is committed to staying ahead of the curve for these updates, and we have put a protocol in place for those who may be affected by the new release.

How to tell if you are affected

TLS 1.2 is supported in .NET 4.6, so the update will impact products that are built with the .NET 4.5 or lower:

  • DocAve 6 SP10.1 or below
  • Office Connect 1.60 or below (customers can upgrade to 1.70 directly and will not need a configuration change)
  • Governance Automation 1.9 or below
  • File Share Navigator Online (FSNO will update to .Net4.6 in March release)
  • Avepoint Meetings
  • Avepoint Records (On-Premises Version)

Browsers with TLS versions below 1.2 may be blocked in the future to ensure communication security. We recommend that you update your browser to a higher version to ensure that your organization is not hindered by the update.

How to adjust to the changes

Seeing a product or service that has been affected by the update to TLS 1.2? Don’t worry, we have you covered!

  1. Check which installed .NET version of the server that hosting the AvePoint products.
  2. For .NET 4.5 and 4.5.1, please install the update with corresponding OS version as following:

Note: AvePoint’s SaaS products, such as AvePoint Online Services (AOS), already support TLS 1.2. Current users will not have to worry about the new update.
