A premier university in Asia that is home to more than 8,300 students and 1,100 staff, Singapore Management University (SMU) decided to modernize its intranet by upgrading to a hybrid combination of SharePoint 2013 on-premises and SharePoint Online. In addition to offering users collaboration through the familiar suite of Microsoft office tools, SMU was impressed by SharePoint’s ease of use for updating and publishing content, enterprise search functionality, and mobile-ready interface.

In order to reduce risk throughout every phase of the project and achieve its goals, SMU decided it needed to bring on an advisor to help its team in charge of the initiative. After meeting with multiple vendors, a 15-person panel at SMU unanimously chose AvePoint Client Services (ACS), which offers SharePoint planning and implementation services based on Microsoft best practices and AvePoint’s experience enabling collaboration for more than 13,000 organizations since 2001.

By engaging ACS for the project, SMU was able to:

  • Complete planning, implementation, and training phases of a new SharePoint intranet deployment in six months – 50 percent faster than initially expected for the project
  • Receive thorough training on effectively managing and governing the SharePoint environment as well as best practices on educating more than 9,100 users to take full advantage of the intranet’s enhanced collaboration capabilities
  • Achieve high satisfaction rating for the new intranet environment, with users giving the intranet a score of 8.2 out of 10 on average when surveyed
