SYMPTOMS:
User is running into the following error message when trying to restore a file via SQL: The database ‘database name’ does not exist. Restore can only create a database when restoring either a full backup or a full backup of the primary file.
CAUSE:
This occurs when the user is trying to restore a SQL backup from two different versions. For example: trying to restore a SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
SOLUTION:
Use a backup from the version of SQL that is installed.
