AvePoint Employee Spotlight: Timothy Boettcher

Timothy Boettcher, Director, AvePoint Client Services (ACS)
Location: Singapore
How long have you been with AvePoint?
I joined AvePoint in the Singapore office in June 2014. However, I was also the first partner in Australia to complete the AvePoint Certified Engineer (ACE) program while still a partner, which was back in 2010! So I guess you could say I’ve been with AvePoint for five years now.
Where were you working before AvePoint, and why did you come here?
I was Principal Consultant specializing in SharePoint solutions at an Australian company called OBS (now a part of Empired), where I worked for seven years. I joined AvePoint to become a part of a truly global company. It was a comfortable move considering my past experience with the product, and I was also excited to bring some of my experience from the SharePoint and AvePoint solutions consulting space to the rapidly growing Singapore office.
What is your favorite part of working for AvePoint?
The people! AvePoint has such a dynamic bunch of amazingly talented people from all over the world. It’s awesome to be working with such a great group of people! Coming to the office is fun because the people make it fun.
When you’re not working, what is your favorite hobby?
I have a range of hobbies I like to keep myself busy with outside work. I’ve always enjoyed music, whether I’m actually playing or just attending local gigs. Right now, I am focusing most of my hobby time on improving my Bass guitar, since that’s the only instrument I brought with me to Singapore. I also enjoy photography (Which I try to upload here when I get time), indoor and outdoor rock climbing, and Xbox.
If you could impart one fact about Singapore to the rest of AvePoint, what would it be?
We have the biggest Yakult bottles in the world (It’s true, look it up!). But seriously, Singapore is a unique city with a mix of cultures, influences, food, and people. For such a tiny city, there’s always something exciting going on.
That translates to the AvePoint office, too. We’ve got such a diverse range of large and exciting projects happening right now, ranging from entire end-to-end document management solutions, exciting next-gen intranet portals, and making some government services streamlined with eServices and forms. It’s an exciting time!
Of our five core values – passion, drive for excellence, teamwork, innovation, and industry leader – which one do you identify with most and why?
I identify most with passion. I think that if you’re passionate about everything you do, whether inside work or outside work, everything else will follow. Being passionate naturally drives excellence and often leads to innovation. I love the ease of working with Microsoft products, I love the flexibility of SharePoint, and I’ve been a longtime fan of how AvePoint products solve a lot of business issues. If you follow your passion, everything else is easy!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
My Dad always used to say, “Don’t come to me with a problem, come to me with a solution.” I take that approach to both my life and my work. Whenever I hit an issue in my job or outside of work, before moving on I like to think, “What are my options here? What are the outcomes? Do I already have a solution and haven’t noticed it?” It’s served me well so far.
If you could give one piece of advice to new AvePoint employees, what would it be?
Embrace change. All businesses change to some degree, but the IT industry changes rapidly. AvePoint will continue to constantly change, not only to keep up with the landscape, but to challenge it as well. Embrace change and ride the wave!
