AvePoint’s Award-Winning Management & Governance Platform is Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Ready

At AvePoint, we have been working hard to ensure that our DocAve 6 platform supports Microsoft SharePoint 2013. SharePoint 2013 has been in Preview publically now since July and the public RTM announcement states availability for those with Microsoft Software Developer Network and TechNet subscriptions. With Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2012 just around the corner, the hype is building for the next major release. It’s a very exciting time in the SharePoint ecosystem!

Microsoft has not publically announced the official date that SharePoint 2013 will be generally available. For now, we are informing customers that AvePoint will release DocAve 6 Service Pack (SP) 2 in February 2013. Now that we have received the release to manufacturer (RTM) package, we have started a full quality assurance process with all of our products in the DocAve 6 platform in order to account for any potential changes between the RTM package and the Preview package.

AvePoint’s DocAve Software Platform already provides SharePoint 2013 support for all of its 40-plus products across all capabilities. We were able to do this quickly after we finished development on DocAve 6 SP1 because of the fact that all of our products in the DocAve 6 platform leverage one common module to communicate with SharePoint. Once we updated this module, all of our products had the capability of connecting to SharePoint 2013. This is one of the major benefits of AvePoint having a common platform that has been entirely built in-house, as opposed to other vendors with individual products that aren’t integrated or ones that simply acquire additional products from disparate, legacy vendors.

As with any Preview, there are still areas that we are actively working on to ensure we have full support for the next version of SharePoint once it is generally available. This is because we want to ensure that we continue to offer our customer base exceeding 10,000 across 63 countries only the highest quality products. A pioneer in the SharePoint community from Tahoe to today, we at AvePoint believe that we owe it to our customers to continue our tradition of providing a complete end-to-end solution to protect, manage, govern, and scale their SharePoint deployments.

In particular, we are currently ensuring that our platform backup and restore functionality in DocAve Backup and Restore seamlessly works with the service application architecture changes made in SharePoint 2013. Granular backup and restore functionality has already been verified. Furthermore, we are also ensuring that DocAve Storage Manager’s real-time BLOB externalization functionality works well with the addition of Shredded Storage support in SQL for SharePoint content databases, which has subsequently changed the way the Remote BLOB Storage (RBS) provider works in SharePoint 2013. These will be available shortly.
