Platform Backup jobs fail if SQL Agent Logon user lacks required permissions

Details:

If the SQL Agent Logon user of the SQL Writer Services does not have the required permissions, Platform Backup jobs may fail at 0%, generating the following error message: System.Exception: An error occurred while doing operation CheckRequiredServicesBackup, error message: Started the service SQLWriter failed.

To solve this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate the SQL Agent Server. 
  2. Navigate to Start > Run > gpedit.msc. 
  3. Navigate to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment > Log on as a service. 
  4. Add the Log On user of the SQL Writer Service as a user here. 
  5. Click Apply.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Restart the SQL Writer Service.
  8. Re-run the Platform Backup job.
