    Q: Where do I go to download APIA?
    A: APIA is distributed exclusively by IAPP, and can be accessed from their website: https://www.privacyassociation.org/resource_center/avepoint_privacy_impact_assessment_system

    Q: Is APIA really free? That sounds too good to be true!
    A: APIA is a free tool without any “catch” or limitation whatsoever.

    Q: Is APIA a hosted solution?
    A: No, APIA is an application that gets installed and is run from within your infrastructure and environment, on your side of the firewall.

    Q: Can I install this on my laptop or desktop computer?
    A: While it can be installed on a laptop or desktop computer, APIA is designed to be installed on a server so it can be accessed by everyone that will be participating in the assessment.

    Q: What are the system requirements for installing APIA?
    A: APIA has the following basic minimum system requirements:
    • Operating System: Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2012
    • .NET Framework 4.5 or above
    • SQL Server 2008, 2008 R2, or 2012
    • Browser: Internet Explorer 9 or higher, Chrome, Firefox, or Safari

    Q: How do I install APIA?

    Q: How is APIA accessed once it is installed?
    A: APIA is a web-based application, and is accessed through a web browser.

    Q: What web browsers will work with APIA?

    Q: How do I log into APIA once it is installed?
    A: There is a default local administrator account included in APIA, accessed by using Login ID: admin, password: admin, and Authentication Mode: Local System. This account will allow you to configure other users (administrators and non-administrators) within the system.

    Q: Will AvePoint or IAPP have any access to my data?
    A: No. APIA is installed into your environment, and all data is stored locally.

    Q: How do I get or share assessment templates from other community members?

    Q: I’m getting an error that says “Cannot open the setup.ini file” when I try to run Setup.exe.
    A: The installation file provided during the download is in a ZIP format that must be fully extracted before the Setup.exe file can be run properly.

    Q: I want to use a MS SQL database instead of the Builtin database provided with APIA. What roles or permissions should the user have whose credentials are supplied during setup?
    A: The SQL user account provided during setup must be a member of the dbcreator and securityadmin server roles to be able to connect to the server and create the APIA control database.
