Preparing for the Next Generation of Modern Computing

The past several months have been extremely busy in terms of AvePoint’s support and attendance of Microsoft’s major global events, including TechEd North America, TechEd Europe, and most recently Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC).

WPC 2013 brought approximately 16,000 attendees from around the world together to learn more about Microsoft’s vision for the next generation of modern computing. AvePoint, a proud Microsoft partner since 2001, was honored to have been recognized as a finalist for Partner of the Year in three categories: Collaboration and Content, Office/SharePoint App Developer, and Public Sector – Public Safety and National Security. AvePoint Public Sector was also recognized as being one of the first partners to be included in Microsoft’s newest initiative, CityNext. Our participation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to helping cities innovate now and modernize for the future.

At WPC, the message from Microsoft was clear. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer declared that the company is undergoing a transformation into a devices-and-services company, and the four trends that support that transformation are big data, cloud, enterprise social, and mobility. Jon Roskill, Corporate Vice President of the Worldwide Partner Group at Microsoft, also stressed to attendees that it is incumbent in today’s proliferation of big data, cloud, mobile, and social solutions that vendors can help stitch together these investments in a cohesive solution that helps organizations improve business productivity and innovation velocity with the confidence its data is secure. If you would like to watch the keynote addresses from WPC, please visit the official event website.

WPC is also a fantastic opportunity for us to meet with Microsoft executives, partners, and other members of the ecosystem to establish, foster, and deepen relationships. In our conversations with Microsoft about our burgeoning app portfolio, it’s clear that working hand-in-hand with Microsoft since it opened its Microsoft Office and Windows 8 app stores has enabled us to bring a maturity and sophistication to the market as an enterprise collaboration enabler.

It’s exciting to see that all of the investments our company has made – and continues to make – are aimed squarely into these focus areas. I have written since late 2012 about the importance of collaborating with confidence across our four pillars – Compliance, Governance, Infrastructure Management, and Productivity – in addressing big data, cloud, mobile, and social trends. Clearly, AvePoint is in the nexus of the biggest disruptive technology trends today. Our history and strength in the bits and bytes of enterprise collaboration infrastructure, both on-premise and in the cloud, enable us to extend our coverage to help global enterprises achieve a unified collaboration vision that stitches together today’s data silos and prescriptively get closer to their enterprise vision tomorrow.

Not only were there transformational announcements regarding technology focus from Microsoft, the company also unveiled a major re-alignment in order to innovate with greater speed, efficiency, and capability. As part of this re-alignment, Microsoft is dissolving its eight product divisions in favor of four new ones arranged around broader functional themes: OS, Apps, Cloud, and Devices.

This news again brings up a common theme – the need to rapidly innovate in order to survive today’s disruptive technology landscape. It will take agile companies to ride this wave in order to survive. Microsoft’s changes are aimed in this direction, and rest assured that AvePoint is continuing to do this as well. With our continued expansion worldwide and our push to ensure every area of our business continues to be in a constant state of enterprise readiness, AvePoint is in prime position to empower global enterprises by providing the right level of infrastructure and strategic systems to lower overall cost of delivering advances to the business while enabling innovation.

This is an extremely exciting time to be a part of AvePoint, to have an opportunity to lead the charge into the next generation of technology in order to help make the world a better place for people and businesses around the world.
