Veterans of Microsoft Ignite know that one of the biggest and most fun events of the entire conference is AvePoint’s famous Red Party. 1,331 people attended with goals of networking, mingling, and having as much fun as possible. Regardless of their reasons for coming, come they did and the Red Party 2017 was another sight to behold!
Doors opened at 10 p.m. after conference activities wrapped up on day two, and folks made their way to Cuba Libre to kick off the festivities. The Red Party is known for its extravagance, performances, and for being a can’t miss spectacle. This year was no exception, as the venue was decorated to the nines and pageantry was not in short supply.
For this year’s main event at the Red Party, AvePoint hosted a charity fashion show with folks from around the Microsoft ecosystem dressing in costumes of people from Disney movies, fairy tale princesses, and other movie characters. The fashion show was co-hosted by our Dux Raymond Sy and the head of Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program, Dona Sarkar. It was a real treat to see the goofy side of everyone involved and an even bigger treat to help with charitable donations to the victims of Hurricane Harvey. Together with the help of the Houston SharePoint User Group, the event raised $5,000 to go towards helping those affected by the devastating storm in coastal Texas.
After the conclusion of the fashion show, it was time for everyone to get down to the business of getting down, as guest DJ Joey Snow began his performance. Dancing was plentiful as attendees enjoyed five open bars spaced throughout Cuba Libre.
Also on hand was Barry AvePoint, our mascot for GroupHub, which we launched at Ignite. One of the men behind the mask of Barry was Hunter Willis, account technical specialist at AvePoint. Despite probably being a little toastier than the rest of the party, Hunter said he had a great time.
“It was really great to see everybody cutting loose and just having an awesome time,” he said. “It was even more special that we were able to do all this for a good cause and do our part to try to get the people of Houston’s lives back to normal. It’s great when people with a common goal come together to do stuff like this.”
Dux, AvePoint CMO and CTO of AvePoint Public Sector was also excited about the event’s turnout, energy, and cause.
“There were so many great people at the Red Party last night,” he said. “So many friends and colleagues and it’s always such a treat to see the fun and goofy side of people. The fashion show was such a blast and it makes it even more enjoyable knowing that we were able to do this for a good cause. Houston’s a resilient place and we know they’ll be back on their feet in no time and it’s our pleasure to chip in to make that happen. #HoustonStrong”
So, after painting Orlando red on the night of day two, AvePoint’s not done! The winner of our wildly popular Ducati motorcycle raffle will be announced on day four at booth 301. Also, be sure to check out avepoint.com in the coming days for more photos of the #AvePointRED festivities!
