Surprisingly enough, the iconic shape of donuts comes from an American ship maker named Hansen Gregory. He discovered it after trying to come up with a way to solve the problem of undercooked centers in pastries, leading him to punch a hole in the center of the dough before it was baked. Shout out to Krispy Kreme for keeping this tasty tradition alive today!
