What’s New in DocAve Deployment Manager in DocAve 6 Service Pack 3

Since the release of DocAve 6, DocAve Deployment Manager has grown tremendously as a product with enhanced features that help automate Microsoft SharePoint implementation from staging to production. Starting in Service Pack (SP) 1, we released the Compare feature. Initially, this feature allowed users to look at a specific source and destination to see which Design Elements are missing. In SP 3, new functionality has been added to display exactly what is different.

Not only does this allow you to compare any item in your environment, but DocAve Deployment Manager also gives you the ability to add that item right into a plan so that you can easily and intelligently choose which design elements need to be deployed.

Another great feature that we implemented in SP 3 is the Solution Dependency Check. This feature allows users to test run a plan so they can see if a solution has any dependencies before the solution is deployed into another farm. This provides for an easier creation of plans so that the users have more insight as to what the requirements each SharePoint solution may have.

Also added in SP 3 is the ability to perform an incremental deployment of managed metadata. As SharePoint adoption and environments continue to grow throughout an organization, administrators can update their term stores quite frequently. Whether this means updating, adding, or deleting terms, changes happen all the time. Users are having trouble trying to keep these terms in sync in the rest of their environments. In SP 3, DocAve Deployment Manager is able to look through the change logs of these term stores and determine what needs to be updated. This allows for faster jobs and ensures that data’s full fidelity is maintained throughout deployment.

  1. I like the new Test Run feature to check for dependencies. In my case it checked for assemblies and site definitions on the destination before running the job to make sure it won’t fail.
