Talent Spotlight: Nathaniel Abad, Support Manager

-

Meet Nathaniel Abad, Manager of Tier 1 Technical Support Engineers based out of the Manila office. Learn about his AvePoint journey in a brand-new office and how he’s already seen career progression since starting with our organization in April 2019. He also shares advice to new and potential hires and some fun personal facts and interests.

What’s your story at AvePoint?

When the Manila office opened operations in April 2019, I determined that I’d give my role my best shot and vowed to help other new hires within the Support team. In October 2019, I was promoted from an analyst to a Technical Support Engineer and started formally mentoring new hires. All my hard work paid off when I was promoted to Team Lead and Senior Technical Support Engineer last July 2020. I am grateful for the trust given to me and I commit myself to empower the Manila Support Team to become effective members of the Global Support Team and grow their skills aligned to their goals and aspirations.

What do you like to do outside of work?

Play with my cats and prep home-cooked meals. These are my go-to activities since the COVID lockdown began last year and serve as stress relievers.

What advice would you give to future new hires?

Have a “learn, unlearn, and relearn” mindset when you start working here. There will be things that you learn about AvePoint, unlearn from your previous roles, and relearn to help you grow in your role.

What is your favorite thing to do in your city?

I love spending my weekends around the Metro and eating Samgyupsal (Korean BBQ) with friends. This is typically followed by a trip to a coffee shop where we can catch up as Titas and Titos of Manila.

Tell us something(s) most people don’t know about you.

I’m a bit of a wallflower. However, knowing how to handle people and being charismatic are two important life skills to me, and I use those skills every day.

Right after graduating from college I wanted to pursue law school, but due to financial constraints I decided against it. However, I’m thankful because if I pursued law I wouldn’t be where I am today at AvePoint ?.

What has been your proudest moment working at AvePoint?

I had the opportunity to visit AvePoint’s Beijing office in November 2019. This was my first experience on a plane, traveling outside the Philippines, and seeing snow.

What is your motto or personal mantra?

Your efforts will never betray you. Work smart but never forget to work hard.
