AvePoint expanded our presence with the grand opening of an office in Manila, PH earlier this year! This office already has 13 employees spanning from business development to technical support and People Team members and is continuing to grow. With that, I’d like to introduce Jenny Rose Filipino, who joined the AvePoint family in April as a Technical Support Analyst. Read on to learn how she’s gained confidence in her role, what leadership means to her, and her passion for life.
How did you first learn about AvePoint and what drew you to your current position?
Prior to joining AvePoint, I was a Technical Support Representative at the world’s largest search engine. I was actively looking for a new job on Craigslist when I came across the Technical Support Analyst role. The job description closely matched my background and, after digging further into AvePoint, I found that the company supports a previous competitor of my former company!
Being a part of AvePoint on the tech support team lifts my confidence to be better and strive for even more. I know that I’m working for one of the best companies in the IT industry, and we have great people who value teamwork and help to increase the knowledge and better the skills of others. Plus, we have an environment for growth and advancement.
What advice would you give to future new hires?
As a new hire myself, being punctual is definitely expected. Also know that everyone learns at a different pace, so never compare your progress to the progress of others. Always absorb the work and environment and don’t be afraid of mistakes. To progress, we need to make mistakes to know how to improve. From my experience so far, AvePoint is a company that leaves plenty of room for growth and improvement.
What do you like most about your job?
I love learning new things every single day. It’s exciting to know that there won’t be any days that I’ll go home without learning something new that I can share with my co-workers.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership is meant to empower and motivate a group of people, and this simply starts from within. Becoming a good follower makes a great leader. A great leader listens, understands his/her team, accepts their team’s flaws, and provides them with the confidence to tackle difficult tasks to improve.
What do you like to do outside of work?
Outside work is always a spontaneous adventure. You can find me at the gym, hiking mountains near and far, dancing, theater performing, spending time with friends, and traveling overseas. A few places I’ve visited include Thailand, Malaysia, Japan; within the Philippines: Cebu, La Union, Baguio, and Pangasinan. Other than that, I love to cook, read books, watch classic films and edit videos for my YouTube channel. I like to make the most of every day!
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
Progress. In all aspects of my life I look towards any improvements (big or small) to keep myself aligned with my goals.
Do you have a favorite quote, motto, or personal mantra?
“Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:4 (NIV)
Accepting change is the only way to make life a little bit easier.
