Meet Andrew Iskander, Director of National Security Enterprise Sales, based in our Arlington, Virginia office. He’s worked at AvePoint for over three years now and has worked with a variety of federal customers as an individual contributor and in a leadership capacity. When he first started as an AE, his manager told him, “don’t let your title define what you do in this role.” That’s stuck with him ever since and has helped him progress in his career, knowing that the most important part of our business is executing with customers. So whether you’re a new hire or been here for ten years, you’ll have the opportunity to do that every day.
What are your hopes for our industry?
As the digital transformation age continues, companies are shifting the way they work. Digital collaboration will continue to be one of the most important aspects of how organizations achieve their mission. As a result, the data management & governance industry is well-positioned to support this modernization effort. Leaders across different organizations and industries are recognizing the importance of managing and protecting their collaboration systems to enable their organizations while reducing security risks.
What does leadership mean to you?
Leadership is an interesting concept because there are a million different ways to slice the pie. My approach to leadership revolves around setting the example for others, and most importantly, never asking those around you to do anything you aren’t willing to do yourself.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
Hot sauce – you’ve got to spice it up!
What is your favorite thing to do in your city?
Washington, DC is an awesome walking city with shops, historic buildings, and monuments all over the place. During COVID, I started walking 4-5 miles throughout the day to keep my sanity.
What is your motto or personal mantra?
“You gotta risk it for the biscuit!”
You’re happiest when?
I’m traveling! I loved that aspect of my job prior to COVID and outside of work I’ve tried to visit a new country every year. Some of the best places I’ve been in the last five years are Italy, Greece, Austria, Turkey and Croatia.
