Tips for a Successful Interview at AvePoint

In my last blog post, I shared a few reasons why sales opportunities at AvePoint are attractive to job seekers. The next question is, how exactly can someone get a job here? I’ve highlighted a few tips and tricks on general interview best practices, the type of talent we look for and hire, and how to make a lasting impression to land a role at AvePoint.

Tips for preparing for an interview with us:

  • Have a plan. What types of companies and roles excite you? Why are you qualified for this opportunity? What are your accomplishments and performance statistics? Being able to provide specific examples of your success and in-depth answers to those questions is critical. Knowing this beforehand is the first step in differentiating yourself from other talent out there.
  • Know your customer. How would you prepare for a customer demo or presentation? You’d do your homework by researching the organization and people you’re meeting with, understanding the company’s goals and objectives, and determining how you’re able to help them. We look for the same kind of preparation before an interview. Not only does our website hold many valuable resources, videos, and articles for you to check out before speaking with us, but you can also find great content posted by our employees. We love speaking with people who have familiarity with who we are and can speak confidently to how they can be a strong asset to our company.
  • Know your strengths and weaknesses. I know it’s a cliché, but everyone has both. Not everyone is secure enough to admit weaknesses, but we want to hire those who have proven their resilience and were able to pick themselves up after a tough sale or obstacle.

What we look for in a candidate:

  • Someone who’s well connected and collaborative. Whether you’re a salesperson or technical engineer, you are representing your organization. Knowing the landscape and having connections in your field will lead to successful meetings and ideas. In addition, AvePoint relies on collaborative, team-based efforts with internal and external parties.
  • Someone who’s energetic, passionate, and hardworking. Someone who loves where they work and believes in the company is going to be successful. At times, sales or projects do not come easily, but those with the right drive will see results.
  • Consultative selling and influencing skills. Going into a meeting and offering customers or clients insights and perspectives while educating them on the value of our solutions is our recipe for success. In a sales role, you’re tasked with bringing in new business from our largest customers. You’ll need to be creative and have the ability to think on your feet.

How to make a lasting impression:

  • Just as you would pitch a customer, this is the opportunity for you to pitch yourself. A candidate who has something original, interesting, and genuine to say will most likely probe further conversation.
  • Go above and beyond. Recently, a candidate prepared a 30-60-90 day plan before going into a meeting with the hiring manager. Not only did this show incredible initiative, but the self-starter mentality of a sales rep who’s aiming high.
