AvePoint’s Favorite SharePoint Conference Moments

In just a few short days, the largest Microsoft SharePoint event of the year will be upon us: SharePoint Conference (SPC) 2012 in Las Vegas, NV, where 10,000 of our closest friends will learn from the best in the SharePoint community how to best utilize the platform for business success.

AvePoint is a proud Platinum and Keynote sponsor for the third consecutive SPC – to learn more about all of our activities at the show, please visit our microsite.

We have many members of our AvePoint family who are no stranger to the phenomenon that is SPC. Below are some of our favorite moments from past SharePoint Conferences.

Wei Chen – Senior Vice President of Engineering & General Manager of APAC Business Development: “My favorite moment at SPC is usually when customer comes to the booth and say hello. The second best moment is the raffling contest for the Ducati – it’s an unforgettable moment especially when one of our customers wins!”

Greg Headley – Director of Enterprise Sales, Northwest: “The AvePoint RED Party was absolutely amazing, and I never knew that the SharePoint community could party like that! It was absolutely epic! SPC also gave me a good look into the SharePoint movers and shakers and why the community thrives; the eagerness to learn and enthusiasm to share is unique. Outside of Crossfit, I’ve not seen a user community so fanatical! Whether you’re new to SharePoint, as I was last year, or an old salt, you can’t leave SPC without learning something new and making some new friends along the way!”

John Hodges – Vice President, Global Account Product Management: “At SPC 2011, AvePoint was finally unveiling DocAve 6 to the market and we were starting to show live demos of our new interface, architecture, and products in group sessions. As a product manager, it really touched me to see every other attendee (sometimes more) walk up to us and say ‘Thank you!’ for supporting them for so long, especially with this new gift of DocAve 6. It’s not often you get to shake hands with a few thousand of your loyal supporters! I was both moved and inspired to claim the slogan all the more upon returning to the office: I love my job!”

Dr. Tianyi (TJ) Jiang – Co-Founder & Co-CEO: “My favorite moment was during the AvePoint RED Party at SPC 2011, after I thanked everyone for their support of AvePoint from Tahoe to today, the entire club erupted in thunderous cheers as we all toasted to the success of SharePoint. It was truly a joyous moment, to be repeated for many years to come!”

Heather Newman – Senior Vice President of Global Marketing: “When I sit in an SPC keynote or expo hall and take a moment to look around – it makes me smile knowing I helped produce the first official SharePoint Conference, which was a mere line item on a statement of work that Zoltan Deak and I collaborated on in 2005. The team had this idea after the first unofficial SPC (a web part smackdown held by Mike Fitzmaurice and Joel Frauenheim) that had happened at the MSCC and was such a success. Having been an employee in the US Sub and vendor for that original SharePoint team (since 2001) and continuing to help shape how SharePoint partners, the product, and the Redmond team were seen in the world by producing its events for eight years has been a privilege and a pleasure. Most of my favorite memories come from simply making people happy by throwing a great party/dinner/overall event; making important connections between attendees and partners; and making sure keynote presentations run flawlessly – but ultimately it’s the friendships and utterly sweet people in the community that are my favorite memories and experiences in the world of SharePoint.”

Jeremy Thake – AvePoint Chief Architect & SharePoint MVP: “As many of you know, as well as working at AvePoint, I also co-founded NothingButSharePoint.com. At SPC 2011 and SPC 2009 I had personalized t-shirts printed, and it was incredible to see everyone proudly wearing them during the keynote and around the conference all week. Getting to meet in person so many people I collaborate with online is the biggest buzz!”

Randy Williams – Enterprise Trainer & Evangelist: “My favorite memory from past SPC events is rocking out to Huey Lewis at Mandalay Bay during SPC 2009. It was a great 80’s show! Plus, I distinctly remember Huey hitting on one of my colleagues after an after party event. Good times!”
