The Sands Expo in Las Vegas hosted the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) 2012 event last week. With more than 37,000 attendees, it was the largest HIMSS event ever and participants were able to view some of the hottest technologies in healthcare. In addition to our booth with Affigent, AvePoint’s partners were there in full force. Microsoft, Dell, and NetApp all had a significant presence, while Perficient, Tribridge, and Alliance were able to present their solutions within the Microsoft booth itself.
While walking through the massive 200,000 square foot hall, one thing became evident: Vendors are now more than ever are talking about protecting patient health information (PHI). Document management, electronic health records, and physical storage vendors as well as consultants all had something within their suite of solutions that addressed PHI. It was a consistent hot button and was what made the introduction of our Healthcare Kit a success.
As I mentioned previously, HIMSS was the venue for the release of the DocAve Healthcare Kit that addressed protecting PHI. Among the attendees I spoke with, the one common concern was implementing a governance plan inside of SharePoint in order to confidently store patient information. Additionally, a few attendees mentioned the headache they experienced developing PHI dictionaries or outsourcing the creation of a dictionary to a third party consultant. Our Healthcare Kit was a natural fit for these types of concerns, and I was able to have in-depth discussions around implementing the DocAve Software Platform. Our technology was well showcased, and we have a lot of work to do to follow up with the many individuals who want to learn more.
This event was a great way for us to educate our partners and customers on the power of the Healthcare Kit, and we are already looking forward to HIMSS 2013. I hope to see you next year on Bourbon Street!
