This week, we were honored with AvePoint Compliance Guardian, our flagship solution that ensures information is available and accessible to people who should have access and protected from those who should not, being named a company to watch in Gartner Research’s Magic Quadrant for Content-aware Data Loss Prevention. The Magic Quadrants are influential pieces of research that cover the most important technology areas, outlining leaders, visionaries, challengers, niche players, and ones to watch that Gartner will continue to examine closely. This recognition is a humbling honor and a testament to the work we have put into building a product that not only meets the data privacy, security, and accessibility needs of enterprise organizations today, but the challenges they will surely face in the future. I’d like to recognize and thank our tremendous global research and development teams that work daily to create real world solutions to address difficult technology problems through innovative yet programmatic approaches to Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) concerns. I’d also like to thank you, our customers, for supporting us not just in purchasing software, but also giving us honest and direct feedback as to what you really need to help you address your risk management needs. Throughout this year we have worked closely with our customers to help them use Compliance Guardian to overcome the challenges they face in building trustworthy collaboration gateways that address compliance requirements for data privacy, security, and accessibility for their technology environments – whether it was SharePoint, file shares, web applications, or otherwise. This year was clearly the year of privacy, where it was easy to tell stories of other companies, individuals, and even countries that fell victim to breaches of not only data – but also trust. Best practices for security have traditionally focused on “building walls” to “keep people out” and “keep information in,” however the challenge with this approach is that as you build a ten foot wall, your opponent brings an eleven foot ladder. Thus you are always in a defensive mode, looking to outwit an enemy. While perimeter-based security is important, it is only one strategy in an approach that must be layered. Organizations must also look at information as it is managed throughout their information gateways. At rest or in motion, data flows through file shares, Web sites, Web applications, SharePoint sites, communication systems (email and Lync) and Social systems. By thinking holistically about managing compliance and maintaining visibility, data classification and control as information moves about the organization, then the walls become less and less penetrable. Today, Compliance Guardian is the technological enabler to ensure that we trust our information workers to do their jobs correctly, but verify that they are doing so. We are extremely excited about the future of Compliance Guardian. We take being a vendor to watch seriously, and be on the lookout for even more enhancements in our product early next year – across privacy, security, accessibility, and site quality – as we expand into even more communication gateways and provide more support to help you build a multi-layered approach to information access and data protection, providing the constant enforcement of data privacy policies to ensure that information being utilized is compliant, accessible, and manageable.
