AvePoint Employee Spotlight: Scott Pool

Welcome to the first installment of our Employee Spotlight series, where we catch up with members of our AvePoint family and ask them a few questions about their history with the company, hobbies outside of work, and favorite aspects of where they live around the world.

Where were you working (or going to school before AvePoint, and why did you come here?

Prior to AvePoint, I worked for two years at the NYC Department of Education as an IT intern for public schools in my area that desperately needed it. I also graduated from Queens College with a Bachelors in Computer Science during this time. When AvePoint reached out to me, I saw that the open position was in the support department. I felt it was a great opportunity to dive into something new while taking on a role I’ve been familiar with my whole life; helping others to understand different technologies, and solving problems using them. The rest is history.

What is your favorite part of working for AvePoint?

Things are always changing, and there is never a dull moment when it comes to working here. It can be challenging at times, as you never know what new issue or new requirement will come up when using our products, but that challenge develops you as a person.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite hobby?

These days, I’ve grown to love hiking and the outdoors. I’m always trying to find opportunities to travel and see more of the world. You might also find me and my fiancé at fan conventions, such as New York Comic-Con!

If you could impart one fact about the United States, what would it be?

When visiting New York City, see if you can work a day trip to Queens. I have lived there all my life, and the variety of cultures and cuisines gathered in a single borough is amazing. Flushing in particular has amazing Chinese food, and Dosa Hutt is the best low-profile Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to.

Of AvePoint’s five core values – passion, drive for excellence, teamwork, innovation, and industry leader – which one do you identify with most and why?

I believe teamwork is necessary to help resolve any issues or problems that come our way. The scope that our products cover is massive, but the skillset everyone brings to the table here is varied to solve any issue that we encounter.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Nothing is ever accomplished through panic. In difficult situations, think back to the trials you’ve already overcome in life to give you the confidence to push forward. You will be surprised at what you can do.

If you could give one piece of advice to new AvePoint employees, what would it be?

Never be afraid to ask questions, and always try your best. Everyone is supportive and wants to see you succeed, so be at ease!
