AvePoint at SHARE 2013 in South Africa

From March 11-13, members of the Microsoft SharePoint community will head to Johannesburg, South Africa for SHARE 2013, the SharePoint Conference where business people gather to help each other pinpoint new and different ways to use SharePoint to get business results.
As Premier Partner Sponsor of SHARE, AvePoint will be on hand throughout the event at booth 12 in the exhibition hall where attendees can meet with our SharePoint experts, learn about our latest products and solutions, and enter to win a brand new Xbox 360.

Garth Luke, AvePoint’s Senior Vice President of Australasia, Africa, and California, will present a session entitled “Aligning SharePoint to the Business – Why It’s Important” at 11:55am on Monday, March 11. We asked him a few questions about the content of his session and what he’s looking forward to most at this year’s event.

1. What is your SHARE presentation about?
Garth Luke: My presentation at SHARE talks through the importance of ensuring that your SharePoint and information management strategy is aligned well to your business strategy. I’ll discuss the crucial building blocks for business alignment and share my battle stories from years of experience working with some of Microsoft’s largest global SharePoint customers.

2. Why did you choose this particular topic for the event?
GL: In my time working with many organizations, big and small, the biggest area of failure for SharePoint and information management comes in the lack of alignment between the technology and business strategy. In a recent study from Gartner research, I saw a quotation from the authors that I believe rings true: “In some cases, the problems are not due to SharePoint shortcomings, but rather the fault of the organization itself — poorly planned deployments, weak efforts at engaging the business and inability to do the organizational change management needed to achieve success.”

3. What is one key takeaway you want attendees to leave with after the presentation?
GL: I want to provide a key framework that will equip customers to maintain a strategy that will enable them to use SharePoint as a technology that delivers real business value, as opposed to the limited value it’s providing today. SharePoint is a platform that can help customers achieve great strategic value, but not without the correct planning and thought process. I plan to enable customers to reach their business goals – and use SharePoint as a technology that can help them in this aim – in ways that make sense.

4. Aside from your presentation, what is one thing you’re looking forward to most about SHARE South Africa?
GL: I am South African, so it will be nice to touch base with old friends that I have made in the community over the years. I am very much looking forward to coming to this great event – and we at AvePoint are proud to be a part of it.

If you’re attending the event, be sure to see us at booth 12! What are you looking forward to most this year? Leave a comment and let us know.
